Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
